Steve's Nedlands

We hadn't been since the big remake and its fabulous.  The bar is open out onto the terrace and down to a grassed area.  Great astro turf, you wouldnt know its not real grass.

The service is quick to come to your table and its a nice relaxed atmosphere.  No loud music on either of the occasions we've been so its ideal to be able to hear a conversation.

We tried the hamburgers and the fish and chips.  All good and generous serves.  We'll be going back but not driving next time to really enjoy the wine list.

Worth a visit for a nice casual lunch - in the sun if you can get any here in Perth at the moment

MRS S - Whatley Crescent Maylands

It isnt signed outside very well as yet but its on the corner opposite the train station.  You just grab a seat if there is one and if not, stoodge at the front until there is.
Some is seating on its own and there is a share table that runs down the middle of the room.
It took far too long to get our coffee but when it eventually came, they do make great skinny Latte's.  It was great but I hate it being served in a glass, especially when coffee is actually meant to be served hot.  Anyway, it wasnt hot was in this instance the glass didnt pose a problem.

The breakfast meals were great.  I had mushrooms with fetta and rocket on Ciabatta.  The mushrooms were perfectly cooked and they give you a small dish of (homemade I think) tomato relish.  Reg had a Croque Monsieur.  Not really like a french one, just a ham and cheese toasted sandwich.  The cheese is meant to be on the top and should have Dijon mustard like the Paris one's we had.  It was nice enough though.

Nice little neighbourhood cafe.  Wish South of the river had something as good.  Once they get the coffee;s going a bit faster - they've got the right idea for sure.

Red Cabbage - South Perth

Being Reg's special birthday I looked everywhere for a BYO that was a bit special.  We wanted to take his birthday present special bottle with us.  I found out Red Cabbage do BYO Tues-Thurs.  Cost us a $10 corkage.

The meals were outstanding.  Presentation was smart and my Beef check and tail pudding was the real deal.  It came with a duck egg on top of a square chip pileup.  Anyone who has cooked beef cheeks will really appreciate this meal as its fiddly and time consuming.  Reg's Angus sirloin was med and cooked to perfection of how medium should be.

The wait person was quite nervous opening the 17yo bottle of red and took it away to get a bit of steady nerves and help we think.  We'd chilled it to room temp so once it was decanted and sat for a bit, was perfect.

We finished with a cheese platter which we both agreed is one of the best we've ever had.

Red Cabbage take your Entertainment Card as well.  I havent checked if they stamped it or not - but regardless we are going back with some mates who insist they want to try all these wonderful things.

Incontro - Mends Street South Perth

This is a little gem of a place.  Especially if you can snag the outside table on the balcony.  Inside is quite noisy when the doors are all shut.

We went on friday night with 4 great mates, Jeanie darling, Bob, Glennis and Andrew.  We shared plates brought out on tiered servers.  Crumbed Geraldton whiting was everyone's favourite but nearly everything we had was such a close second.  To whet your appetite, there was also fresh figs with proscuitto and cheese.  Lamb parcels with a middle eastern flavour and marron and prawn pies. Yummo.

For 6 of us we shared 6 plates, it was plenty of food without having a huge meal.

The chef brought the food to the table and explained what it was which was a really nice touch.  It would be a very nice place to take visitors to WA, for the view and the service and the food.

We finished with berries laced with chantilly cream and then a cheese board.  The cheese board could have been bigger but that's about the only thing I can fault about this great spot.

Anna, part owner is there everytime you go so the owners are hands on and it shows.

Positano, Northbridge

Don't bother.  This is the tourist strip and they don't care.  Reg said he could still taste the flour on the veal schnitzel that hadnt been cooked off.

My pasta was a mess.  The pasta was not cooked and still sticking together quite gluggy and it was so busy with all the ingredients in it, was just too much and no flavour.

Must wine bar - Beaufort Street, Mt Lawley

I've been for lunch before but this time we sat in the bar.  It was nice and cool after leaving Five to find a cooler spot.
We ordered a steak sandwich to share and I've got to say it's the best one I've ever had in my life.  The steak was so tender it was hard to believe it was the thickness it was and so delicious.  It came out with 3 giant battered onion rings on the top which really set the whole thing off.  The fries are delicous but for me I think they need to have some sort of sauce or aioli with them.

We had a couple of glasses of wine and watched the heaving Queens across the road in real comfort and can recommend it to anyone for a casual lunch but most especially, the steak sandwich.

My tip is though, don't share it, have 1 all for yourself.

The Byrnleigh - Nedlands

we went for lunch last sunday, stinking hot day but it was still lovely and cool inside with all the door open to make it feel really alfresco.
The lunch menu till 3 is a all day brunch style menu, so the only thing not really breakfasty is a brunch burrito which looked absolutely fantastic with bearnaise sauce and a wagyu beef burger which we had.

It came out on a board with great fries and a truly delicious aioli.

The menu changes at 3 into either tapas or light meals.  We'll definitely be going back to try these as they looked great.

The whole atmosphere is light and airy and clean and everything nicely done.  This is worth a trip.

Five - Beaufort Street, Mt Lawley

Unfortunately we day we picked to go was stinking hot and they have NO aircon.  This is a great shame as we weren't able to stay, it was just too uncomfortable for me.  The setting is great though with a open area at the back with box style seating and louvre's on the ceiling.  Very funky.

When we walked in, the barman greeted us and it was quick service along with providing water without having to ask for it.  I also noticed while he was serving me he still took the time to acknowledge anyone that came to the bar to let them know he wouldn't be long.  This is good service and we all love it when we're not ignored.

The menu is a bit of everything. plates to share and also meals.  It will be worth going back to try their meals once the weather is cooler.  I'll let you know a bit more then

Clarence's - Beaufort Street Mt Lawley

The bar staff greet you when you walk in which is amazing still, every time I go I'm still so surprised.  There's still so many places in Perth you have to fight to get their attention.
I went with a mate and we shared a couple of plates with a few glasses of wine.
You have to book if you want to sit inside.  It's no longer viable to walk in and get a table, they're usually fully booked.
The service is friendly, fast and the good is really good.  It's well thought out and always really well presented.
When the weather cools down it will be a nice spot to sit on the landing outside there and enjoy a breeze.

This is a favourite spot of ours for a lunch on a Sunday.

Il Lido - Cottesloe

We went there on a Harley ride with Lance and Jacinta.  Breakfast/ Brunch time.

There's quite a lot of choice for the breakfasts, the tables are all big long ones that you share.  It was great.

We took our coffee's outside as it was getting very warm inside, and they were happy to bring them out to us.

Worth a try for later on too, niece Liesl loves the place so we'll go back for a dinner this year sometime.
